Carved iconostasis is a barrier that separates the altar area from the rest of the church, and that includes the icons. The word is of Greek origin and originally meant "place for icons" (icon stasis).

The iconostasis of carved wood usually made from steamed walnut, because in it can achieve the highest quality of carving. On it there are three gates, the Royal and diaconal doors. What are the small churches can be waived due to space and then make only one imperial and diaconal doors. The icons are installed in the iconostasis developed according to certain canons.
