Carving respecting Orthodox church canons leaves the icon carved shallow where icons  sustain all the necessary elements of spirituality and retains the characteristics of Orthodox Christians.

Ortodox  believers can see God's presence in the icons and they are praying in front of an icon as if they are praying in front of God. Therefore, the icons are placed in homes, temples and other places. The home in which there are no icons for the Orthodox is considered filthy and desolate place.
